How to Beat Food Intolerances & Eat for Health!
Tips to overcome them
.
Beat food intolerances? Yes, it can be done, and it is not as difficult as most people think.
.
It can be hard to eat and drink the way we are advised sometimes. Think of all the competing advice you pick up as you grow up:
You must eat a good breakfast. You have to drink two litres of water a day. You need five portions of fruit and/or veg each day, and so forth.
.
Sometimes, in trying to keep to those pieces of advice, you can end up not eating or drinking anything else, which isn’t the idea at all.
.
It becomes even more difficult to keep to all the advice if you have a food intolerance or allergy, which more and more people are finding they do.
.
Most of us know (or are!) someone who has difficulty with, for example, gluten. Many people are lactose intolerant, or allergic to nuts or grains.
.
And when you have to stick to a specific diet to deal with food intolerances, sticking to those health guidelines is even harder.
As an example, we are recommended to drink three or four cups of coffee a day. Some people drink a lot more than that without real issue, but for some of us even one or two causes digestive discomfort. Caffeine in small doses is good for us, but if we feel ill every time we drink it, how can it be of benefit?
.
.
The answer for many people is to switch to herbal tea. It still contains caffeine, although usually in smaller quantities. Where it really helps is in being gentler on the digestion.
.
Options such as peppermint, or Jasmine flavoured green tea, actually ease stomach issues.
.
Then there is the gluten issue. We are often advised to eat three to five servings of whole grains a day. But an increasing number of us have some form of diagnosed gluten intolerance.
.
To make matters more confusing, different forms of gluten affect different people. In this case, there really is no choice but an elimination diet.
.
If you follow your normal diet but drop wheat glutens and your symptoms clear, you have your culprit and can eliminate it.
.
If it persists, wheat isn’t to blame. Maybe it’s yeast. Drop that, see how things go. This way, you can get the right number of whole grains without making yourself ill.
An elimination approach is the best way to ensure that you are eating only the foods that don’t trigger an intolerance.
.
As we need a balanced diet – and to stay true to health advice – it is essential to keep as many foods in your regime as possible. Just not at the expense of your own health.
.
People differ, and those guidelines are based on an ideal. Sometimes, you need to find workarounds.
As for the recommended amount of water, the first thing to bear in mind is that it includes tea, coffee and sugar-free drinks.
.
You don’t have to force down so much water you feel bloated. Secondly, it’s wise to take a bottle around with you, keep it topped up and sip away at regular intervals. Downing pints of water to race to the finish line will not help you.
As impossible as it seems, you can stay close to nutritional advice without sending your allergies into overdrive. It takes some getting right, but you’ll find the way.
.
In a nutshell, learning how to beat food intolerances is not that difficult. You just need to get started. NOW!
